ASA Industry Education

Over recent years the Advertising Standards Authority has increased its focus on developing industry engagement and awareness through education and training.  We have helped many organisations improve their awareness and understanding of the Codes and the ASA processes.

This year the ASA offered a variety of options for industry to learn about the new Advertising Standards Code, launched in July.  Five open briefings were held in Auckland and one in Wellington along with in-house briefings on request.  These briefings have provided over 400 participants with details on the structure of the code and the rules, that are new or are common areas of complaint to the ASA.  A number of Examples of advertisements were used to highlight how the advertising standards are applied.

It is now nearly a year since the Children and Young People’s Advertising Code was launched and next month the ASA will host a workshop on this Code. This workshop will discuss the targeting criteria for children and young people and present relevant decisions from the Advertising Standards Complaints Board.
